Many years ago, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to teach English in Japan (Gunma-machi). I loved my time there. Looking back, I am quite certain that I learned more than I taught others. The lessons from my year in Japan keep showing up in my life—so grateful.
Right now, I am reading a beautifully written, recently published book by Beth Kempton (Kokoro ~ Japanese Wisdom for a Life Well Lived). She wrote, “Spaciousness located in the kokoro can be a doorway through which the light shines in, or a window through which our light can shine out” (p. 50).
